Scaffolding

Scaffolding is defined as the temporary framework (either timber or steel) having platforms at different level which enables masons to sit and carry on construction work at different height of building. Scaffolding is needed for masons to sit and place construction materials when height of wall, column or any other structural members of a building exceeds 1.5m. It provides a temporary and safe working platform for various types of work such as: construction, maintenance, repair, access, inspection, etc..



Scaffolding is a common word in construction works. When construction staff needs to conduct work on a building or fixture, they may need a method for gaining access to the work site. Scaffolding is used to help construction workers access the work area. Choosing the correct scaffolding is vital, considering safety aspects and practicality of the scaffolding. That is why there are various forms of scaffolding you can choose from.

Supported Scaffolding

If elevation is required, then this is the most commonly used scaffolding type. If the scaffolding needs to take a lot of weight, then extra support may be required with supported scaffolding.  

Cantilever Scaffolding

Cantilevered scaffold is a scaffold structure that is attached or supported at one end only and eliminates the requirements for poles and frames to be erected in front of a structure.
It is used when there are obstacles preventing a scaffolding tower being erected such as the ground doesn't have the capacity to support standards, the ground near the wall needs to be free from traffic or the upper part of the wall is under construction.  

Rope Access

Ropes access is to enable workers to access difficult-to-reach locations without scaffolding, cradles, or aerial platforms. It allows workers to descend, ascend, and traverse ropes while suspended by a harness or work seat. Rope Access Systems require a Dual Rope System, meaning workers must use a back-up rope in case their primary rope system fails. 

Hanging Scaffolding

Hanging scaffold is a “Temporary work platform without support from below, secured to an overhead structure using fixed length rigid suspension members”. Usually it is used in Painting Works, Mechanical & Electrical Activities & Other Maintenance Works in Ports, Offshore , Refineries & Shipyards etc.
